Optimal electron doping of a C60 monolayer on Cu(111) via interface reconstruction.

چکیده
We demonstrate the charge state of C60 on a Cu(111) surface can be made optimal, i.e., forming C60(3-) as required for superconductivity in bulk alkali-doped C60, purely through interface reconstruction rather than with foreign dopants. We link the origin of the C60(3-) charge state to a reconstructed interface with ordered (4x4) 7-atom vacancy holes in the surface. In contrast, C60 adsorbed on unreconstructed Cu(111) receives a much smaller amount of electrons. Our results illustrate a definitive interface effect that affects the electronic properties of molecule-electrode contact.

Theoretical Investigation of the C60/Copper Phthalocyanine Organic Photovoltaic Heterojunction
Molecular heterojunctions, such as the one based on copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) and carbon fullerene (C60) molecules, are commonly employed in organic photovoltaic cells as electron donor–acceptor pairs. We have investigated the different atomic structures and electronic and optical properties of the C60/CuPc heterojunction through first-principles calculations based on density functional theo...
متن کاملLifshitz transition across the Ag/Cu(111) superlattice band gap tuned by interface doping.
The two-dimensional, free-electron-like band structure of noble metal surfaces can be radically transformed by appropriate nanostructuration. A case example is the triangular dislocation network that characterizes the epitaxial Ag/Cu(111) system, which exhibits a highly featured band topology with a full band gap above E(F) and a hole-pocket-like Fermi surface. Here we show that controlled dopi...
متن کاملFirst-principles investigation of a monolayer of C60 on h-BN/Ni„111..
The geometric and electronic structures of a monolayer of C60 on a h-BN monolayer-covered Ni 111 surface are studied by first-principles calculations. The interaction between ions and electrons is described by the projector-augmented plane-wave method. The most stable structure of the h-BN/Ni 111 surface is found to be N on the top and B on the fcc site of Ni 111 . Upon adsorption, the structur...
متن کاملEffects of polycrystalline cu substrate on graphene growth by chemical vapor deposition.
Chemical vapor deposition of graphene on Cu often employs polycrystalline Cu substrates with diverse facets, grain boundaries (GBs), annealing twins, and rough sites. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron-backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and Raman spectroscopy on graphene and Cu, we find that Cu substrate crystallography affects graphene growth more than facet roughness. We determin...
متن کاملPTCDA on Au(111), Ag(111) and Cu(111): Correlation of interface charge transfer to bonding distance
The electronic structure at the interfaces of 3,4,9,10-perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) and the metal surfaces Au(111), Ag(111) and Cu(111) was investigated using ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS). By combining these results with recent X-ray standing wave data from PTCDA on the same substrates clear correlation between the electronic properties and the interface geometry...
